About
Spaceships is a free/libre multiplayer shooter game. In this game you are a spaceship that you can move around with the keyboard and shoot other spaceships to destroy them. The goal of the game depends on the server configuration, which might be getting as many kills as possible, surviving the longest or capturing the most flags.
Most games involve a finite amount of ammo which periodically spawns as ammo crates that can be collected to increase your ammo. Powerups can also spawn, which provide a range of effects including increased speed, reload rate, regeneration rate and a health boost, increased bullet damage, a forcefield that deflects bullets and teleportation so somewhere on the map.
Other gameplay features include portals where you can teleport between areas, and effect zones which provide a powerup effect to all players inside them.
Spaceships is developed and maintained by Marcus Del Favero, a software developer from Aotearoa (New Zealand). I started working on this game in April 2024 when I wanted to make a multiplayer game after learning the beautiful Rust programming language. After many months of development, I released version 1.0.0 of Spaceships to the public in December 2024 and self-hosted a website and instances for Lemmy, Matrix and PeerTube.
Since the public release, I have added many more features to the game such as in-game chat, an improved customisable scoring system, teams, improved graphics, sound effects and capture the flag.
